Frequently Asked Questions
1.How Do You Describe Your Current Program?
Machiah’s House Inc. is currently in its grassroots development and capacity-building stage as we work toward establishing a safe transitional home for young women ages 18–24 who are aging out of foster care. While we do not currently operate a residential facility or have housing vacancies, we are building our service delivery capacity through nonresidential programming, community outreach, mentorship opportunities, life-skills development, employment and educational readiness, life coaching, financial literacy, and connections to community resources.
Our current efforts focus on helping young women strengthen their independence, identify personal and professional goals, and access resources that support their transition into adulthood. We believe that preparing young women for independent living requires more than providing a place to stay. It requires consistent guidance, practical life skills, accountability, encouragement, and access to supportive relationships. Our long-term goal is to bring these services together within a safe and structured transitional living environment.
2. Do You Currently Have Any Vacancies?
Thank you for considering Machiah’s House Inc. as a potential resource for the young woman you are supporting. At this time, we have no residential vacancies because our transitional home has not yet been established. We understand that young women aging out of foster care may face urgent housing challenges, and we do not want to create the expectation that we can provide immediate placement when residential services are not yet available.
Although we are not currently accepting residential placements, we welcome opportunities to connect with referral partners, share information about our developing programs, and explore appropriate nonresidential support options when available.
We are actively working to secure the funding, property, and community support needed to establish a safe transitional home. We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work toward making this much-needed resource available.
3. Referral Partnership Expectations
Machiah’s House Inc. values referral partnerships built on communication, mutual respect, accountability, and a shared commitment to the well-being of young women transitioning into adulthood.
We welcome relationships with foster care agencies, social workers, schools, colleges, youth-serving organizations, community service providers, and other professionals who work directly with young women who may benefit from our mission and developing services.
Our expectations for referral partners include:
Clear communication: Partners should communicate openly about a young woman’s needs, available support systems, and the type of assistance being requested.
Appropriate referrals: Referrals should align with our target population and theservices we can realistically provide at the time of referral.
Realistic expectations: Referral partners must understand that Machiah’s House does not currently operate a transitional residential facility and cannot accept residential placements at this time.
Respect for confidentiality: Personal information should be shared only when appropriate, with the necessary consent and in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.
Collaborative support: When appropriate, we welcome conversations about connecting young women with educational resources, employment opportunities, life- skills programming, community services, and other supportive resources.
Ongoing communication: We encourage partners to maintain communication with our organization regarding available resources, potential collaboration opportunities, and future program developments.
Our goal is to build meaningful partnerships that strengthen the support network surrounding each young woman while maintaining transparency about our current capacity and limitations.
Frequently Asked Questions for Referral Partners
Q1. Who does Machiah’s House serve?
Response:
Machiah’s House Inc. was established to support young women transitioning from foster care into adulthood, with a primary focus on those ages 18–24. Our work centers on helping young women develop the life skills, confidence, personal accountability, and practical resources necessary to pursue independence and long-term stability. We recognize that each young woman’s circumstances are different. Our goal is to help address gaps in support and connect young women with opportunities that encourage personal growth, educational advancement, employment readiness, and self-sufficiency.
Q2. Are you currently accepting referrals?
Response:
We welcome inquiries from professionals and organizations interested in learning more about our mission and current services. However, because our transitional residential home has not yet been established, we cannot accept referrals for residential placement. Depending on the young woman’s needs and our current program capacity, we may be able to discuss nonresidential programming, available resources, or potential community connections. We encourage referral partners to contact us before making a referral so we can clarify what support may be available and avoid creating expectations that exceed our current capacity.
Q3. What services are currently available?
Response:
Our current efforts focus on developing and providing appropriate nonresidential support for young women transitioning into adulthood. Depending on current availability, these efforts may include life-skills education, mentorship, life coaching, employment readiness, educational preparation, financial budgeting, community resource connections, and personal development activities.
Our long-term plan is to integrate these supportive services into a structured transitional living program. Because we are still building our organizational capacity, we discuss each request individually and communicate clearly about which services are available at the time of inquiry.
Q4. When will the transitional home open?
Response:
We are working toward establishing a safe and structured transitional home, but we do not currently have a confirmed opening date to communicate. Opening the home requires adequate funding, a suitable property, operational planning, staffing, applicable approvals, and the policies and procedures necessary to support safe and responsible operations.
We are committed to building a sustainable program rather than opening before the appropriate resources and safeguards are in place. We welcome partners who are interested in helping us advance this effort through funding, property opportunities, professional expertise, community connections, and other appropriate forms of support.
Q5. Can we refer a young woman who needs immediate housing?
Response:
We appreciate you reaching out to Machiah’s House on behalf of a young woman in need. Unfortunately, we cannot provide immediate housing or residential placement because our transitional home is not yet operational. If the young woman needs housing now, we encourage you to work with your agency’s established housing resources and appropriate local providers to identify a safe and suitable placement. If other needs align with services that Machiah’s House currently has the capacity to provide, we welcome a conversation about whether a nonresidential connection may be appropriate. We understand the importance of timely assistance and would not want a young woman to delay seeking available housing because she is waiting for our residential program to open.
Q6. What will you expect from young women who eventually enter your residential program?
Response:
Our planned residential program is intended to provide a structured, supportive environment that encourages young women to take an active role in preparing for independent living. Program expectations are being developed around participation, accountability, personal goal-setting, life-skills development, educational and employment planning, respectful communication, and engagement with appropriate support services. We envision working with each participant to establish individualized goals and monitor progress over time. Our approach will emphasize both compassion and responsibility, recognizing that young women need encouragement and guidance while also developing the skills necessary to manage their own lives. Final eligibility criteria, participation requirements, resident responsibilities, and program policies will be communicated to referral partners before residential placements begin.
Q7. Will referral partners be involved after a young woman enters your program?
Response:
We recognize that a successful transition into adulthood often requires coordinated support. Our long-term approach includes working collaboratively with appropriate referral partners, case managers, social workers, educational institutions, employers, and community providers when the participant consents and information-sharing is authorized. Our planned program will incorporate individualized goal setting, regular progress reviews, and connections to resources that support each young woman’s personal development and independence. Specific communication procedures and partner responsibilities will be established through program policies and, where appropriate, written partnership agreements.
Q8. How can our organization support Machiah’s House while the home is being developed?
Response:
There are several meaningful ways your organization can support our mission during this stage of development.
We welcome conversations about:
Financial support: Contributing toward property acquisition, renovations, operational expenses, and program development.
Property opportunities: Identifying potential donated, discounted, or otherwise suitable properties for the future transitional home.
Professional expertise: Offering assistance with grant writing, fundraising, legal matters, compliance, social work, or program development.
Community resources: Connecting us with educational programs, employment opportunities, life-skills instructors, and service providers.
In-kind donations: Providing supplies and other resources that support our current programming and organizational development.
Community awareness: Sharing our mission with civic groups, businesses, faith communities, philanthropic organizations, and other potential supporters. Our vision is larger than establishing a building. We are working to create a sustainable support system that helps young women move toward adulthood with greater stability, confidence, and opportunity. Every meaningful connection brings us closer to that goal.
